Finding Balance, Being a Great Leader, & Having The Energy to Get it all Done!

Speaking about being a great leader, while taking care of yourself, at Crystal Springs Resort

On behalf of the Makor Team, Thank you Peter!
— Karen Young: Regional Manager, Makor Management

Dear Friend,

Let me know if you can relate;

  • Do you ever feel like you help others so much it’s challenging to take care of yourself? In other words, finding balance.

  • What about managing/trying to help a colleague/family member who’s being difficult while staying your best self?

  • Or having the energy and focus to accomplish what you must, while enjoying doing it, and still having something left in the tank for family and the weekend?

These are just some of topics that came up during a leadership presentation I gave to the excellent people of Makor Management at the one of a kind, Crystal Springs Resort.

BTW- I loved working with Makor. You hear about some companies committing to putting their people first. Well, Makor does. That’s why they asked me to help inspire their people while reminding them they where the company’s most valuable asset.

And working with the Crystal Springs team is always awesome! If your company is looking to do a game changing retreat/off-site, they’re the perfect place for team building as well as dreamy getaways, golf, dining, weddings, and so much more. I definitely recommend them! Message me for contact.

Now, read below to find balance, how to lead/help “difficult” people, and the energy to get it all done.

All My Best,

Peter

Testimonial

"We recently enlisted Peter to kick off our week-long leadership conference with a motivational message. During our pre-event meeting, Peter took the time to learn about our company and our vision for our team leaders.  He listened thoughtfully, asked questions and reiterated what he heard us say throughout the conversation. My past experiences with "motivational messages" have really just been an over dramatic, "just be positive" pep talk...but this one was different. The presentation was a well-rounded roadmap to identifying vision, personal responsibility to achieve the vision, and practical examples to execute the vision. The message was relational with Peter's experience and personal examples woven in. The proof of the success of the message really came afterward as individuals shared a myriad of takeaways, all different and personally applied. That is the true success of a message, where one voice speaks to the uniqueness of many hearts and minds.  On behalf of the Makor Team, Thank you Peter!"

Balance, Leadership, Energy

Slowing down, decreasing stress, finding balance

Finding Balance

I knew I was in the right room when the first question came from one of the owners sitting in the audience, “How can we balance work and life?” That was perfect segue- One of the powerful secrets I share with my client’s employees is how to succeed at work while thriving at home. Here’s what I shared;

  • Balancing work and home- Asking my audience to think about who and what they love, then, what they can love about their work, connects in their mind personal and professional goals/pleasures.

  • Home and work happiness do not have to be mutually exclusive, gained by sacrificing one for the other. This is a powerful psychological exercise that changes perspectives, work performance, and lives.

    • Ie- I try and direct my audience to this conclusion- One can work hard at the office because they love their family and want to provide for them. This can give deeper meaning to any work.

      • One way they provide for those they love is by taking care of themselves. (If you’re sick and tired, you can’t help anyone).

      • Sometimes we’re asked to do things we don’t like at work, but if we know who we are (purpose), and why we work hard (meaning), it’s possible to get inspired regardless of work. We can be passionate about almost anything as long as we come up with a compelling enough reason to do so.

  • Stress reducing exercise- Besides feeling underappreciated, one of employees biggest complaints is feeling stressed.

    • This stress (anxiety) reducing exercise takes seconds to do and helps clear your mind, lower blood pressure, and gets your brain back online. Find it here

    • research shows, if we don’t get out of anxiety mode, we can’t be our best selves personally, or professionally, and accomplish what we want.

Communication is an art form that can help you inspire and lead your people.

Leading People

In our professional and personal roles, we often have to lead people. Sometimes those people can act in a difficult way, making it challenging to keep our cool and stay focused on the task at hand. Here are some strategies to help;

  • Listen to what’s really being said.

    • If someone say’s I “can’t” or “won’t” do “this” what might they really be saying?

      • Perhaps there are experiencing self doubt, feeling resentful, or unappreciated. Maybe their projecting their negative feelings onto you, affecting your goals as a leader.

    • A good leader listens to what is really being said, and before reacting, acknowledges, then asks more questions for clarity.

      • Ie “It sounds like..” and then repeat back what was shared. Asking questions demonstrates you’re listening (you care). This can be enough to disarm an upset person, helping them get back to their best self sooner than later.

      • Ie “Do you have a solution?” Engaging employees/children in the solution distracts from their resistance. Being part of the team and helping find a solution gives people a feeling of value and self worth.

Getting everyone standing, playing inspiring music, and directing their thoughts toward greatness!

Unlimited Energy

You may have read in my previous posts that physical energy only comes from one place, food. But there is another type of energy, I call it spiritual energy- the kind that comes from tapping into ones purpose, where we find meaning and fulfillment.

  • Want more physical energy? Eat real food- vegetables, fruit, meat in as whole a form as possible, and not too much (1200-1800 cals per day, unless you’re an Olympian :-)

    • Energy sappers/focus frustrators= fast food, preservatives, hormones, antibiotics, nitrates, high fructose corn syrup, pesticides, artificial additives (If you’re eating these regularly it’s near impossible to be your best).

  • I get my audiences standing, play some vibing music, and direct them toward finding their best selves. (Spiritual energy/purpose)

    • You can do this anywhere- the car, bedroom, taking a walk- just get your playlist pumping and direct your mind to the great things you want in life (no negative thoughts allowed!)

Each of us has greatness within us. We just need helping connecting to it. Thoughts, the food we eat, the way to move our bodies, the people we associate with, can help us be our best!
