3 Tips for Eating Healthier in any Restaurant, Anytime

Dear Friend,

Love to eat, but hate to look and feel unhealthy? You’re not alone. Because I’m a foodie, I’ve used my decades of experience as an award winning nutritionist to help me, and my family, especially my children, eat healthier, anytime anywhere. How? Follow these 3 simple tips and you’ll be eating healthier, looking & feeling better, and getting closer to your ideal weight with more energy while looking better in your clothes (Hey, why not :-). Of course try to eat at restaurants that serve real food, but having said that, you can still practice these 3 tips just about anywhere.

  1. Know your calories

    This is so basic but I can’t stress how essential it is initially. Knowing how many calories you should be eating to lose/or achieve a healthy weight is the #1 secret to weight loss, yet, in my experience, 90% of people don’t know how many calories that is. That’s like getting into a car and driving to a destination but you have no idea where the destination is. Calculate your daily calories (BMR) here and start tracking them here.

  2. Eat real food

    In my professional and personal experience, if you don’t recognize the food your eating, neither will your body, making it harder to digest, potentially leading to gut issues like bloating, water retention, weight gain, foggy brain, loss of focus, lethargy, disease, and the list goes on. Start by choosing foods as close to their natural state as possible.

  3. When you eat, just eat.

    I observe others, including my children, being distracted while eating, whether they’re on their phone, laptops, or watching TV. That effects digestion as well as the loss of potential human interaction and connection, something desperately needed at this time and proven to decrease stress, increase wellbeing, and tap into purpose.

My friend and I had such a great night at Lefkes’ Lifestyle Table, enjoying delicious and healthy Mediterranean fare. We enjoyed sampling Greek red and white wines, as well as the chef’s cooking demonstration and host, Peter Kofitsas’s informational commentary. After a dinner of lamb and fish, we enjoyed traditional Baklava and orange cake for dessert. The healthy preparation yet generous portions insured all of us left feeling sated but not overindulgent. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting and I look forward to returning when the weather is more cooperative for a chance to enjoy the outdoor space.

Peter and the Lefkes team did an amazing job creating an event that combined delicious food, curated wine pairings, and useful tips on wellness, all inspired by the Mediterranean way of life.  The generous, multi-course meal was served family-style, with all guests seated at one long table.  This encouraged vibrant communication and led us to meet a group of dynamic, interesting people.  The chef provided live cooking demonstrations on many of the items being served that evening, and politely answered all of our culinary questions.
