How to Protect Yourself, & Those You Love

Dear Friend,

I have good news for you and your family, and it’s simple, yet powerful- Boost and support your immune system naturally. Whether you decide to get a Covid-19 vaccine or not, it’s still incredibly important to naturally support your immune system. Luckily, it’s easy to do, and can be delicious and fun.

Here are some strategies the healthiest people in the world do to help them boost and support their immune systems, and live longer, happier lives:

  • Eat mostly fresh, local, seasonal plants (vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds, whole grains), and meat (wild, grass fed, organic) in moderation

    • In season now- Kale, spinach, escarole, beets, broccoli, broccoli rabe, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes, citrus fruit

  • Move your body daily in easy, small movements- bundle up and take walks, lift light weights, use body weight for resistance -ie squats

  • Connect to your faith, spirituality, higher power, and life’s purpose- meditate, pray

  • Stay connected with those you love, even if it’s remotely- facetime, zoom, yell out your window :-)

  • Cook more of your meals (Yes, support our friends in food service, while also taking care of yourself and your family.)

  • Speak with a therapist- It’s hard to navigate today’s world without a trusted professional who has your back regarding your mental health

  • See your other health professionals- physical therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, massage therapist, and any other health professional who can help you naturally boost your immune system

  • Try to get 6-8 hours of sleep per night, not per week :-)

One more thing; There may always be a new virus, variants, pharmaceuticals, toxins, misguided businesses and corporations that can potentially harm us. My personal opinion and observation is, being a nutritionist and physical therapist for over 22 years, if you eat healthy, exercise, manage your stress, stay connected to those you love, connect to your spirituality, and get enough sleep, research shows can protect yourself from virus’ and decrease your risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, some cancers, and other preventable diseases. Then your chances of succumbing to Covid-19 and it’s variants dramatically lessen according to the CDC, WHO and other organizations. That is a very encouraging fact that I do not hear our elected representatives, scientists, and medical advisors stress.

Please, take care of yourself with good food, exercise, stress management, therapy, spiritual connection, and sleep.
