Good News, Omnivores- 3 Healthier Meat Options

Dear Friend,

People ask me, “Do I need to be vegan to be healthy?” The good news, especially for my fellow omnivores, is no. The healthiest people in the world are not vegan, generally speaking. They eat meat, but with differences compared to some of us.

The healthiest people in the world:

  • Choose healthier meat- organic, local, wild, non GMO fed, no hormones, no antibiotics, minimally processed.

  • Eat smaller portions; Meat is more a flavoring, or condiment, rather than the star of the show/meal. Ie- The way Italians flavor broccoli rabe with sausage, how some Latin cultures flavor rice and beans with pork, and my patients flavor collard greens with smoked turkey legs (I’m drooling)

  • Enjoy meals that are more a social event than a sprint. They don’t eat on the go. Slowing down, they enjoy conversation with those they love. This helps digestion, while staying present and connected.

So if you like meat, and want to be healthy, I encourage you to watch the short clip where I share three healthier meat options that will add flavor to your next delicious meal.

I encourage you to cook more, my friend, while supporting local restaurants and food suppliers as best you can. Together we can help each other through difficult times while staying healthy.

All my best,

Peter

And we’re talking simple meals like popping open a can of wild salmon to create a Nicoise salad that includes seasonal greens, warm potatoes, and olives, drizzled with a mustardy vinaigrette, or chicken fajitas with fresh, creamy guacamole.
